Rule 4(b)(i) - THE PARTICULARS OF THE ORGANIZATION, FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Organization: The Society, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies hereinafter referred to as the Institute was set up at the joint initiative of the Government of India, Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Government of West Bengal. Registered as a Society under the West Bengal Registration of Societies' Act of 1961, with Prof. Nurul Hasan, the then Governor of West Bengal, as the President of the Society on the 4th of January 1993. It is funded by the Department of Culture, Government of India. His Excellency, Governor of West Bengal, is the President of the Society.
The Foundation Stone of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies Salt Lake campus was laid by the then Hon'ble President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, on the 12th of March I993, in the presence of the then HRD Minister Shri Arjun Singh and the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Jyoti Basu.
The campus of the Institute situated at Azad Bhawan, IB Block, Plot No. 166 Sector III, Salt Lake, Kolkata - 700106.
The Institute maintains a personalia Museum named MAULANA AZAD MUSEUM at the former residence of Maulana Azad in Kolkata at 5, Ashraf Mistri Lane, Kolkata - 400019.
The Institute is headed by the Director , Dr.Sreeradha Dutta functioning as Principal Executive Officer and ex-officio Member Secretary to the Executive Council
Objects: The objects of the Society are laid down in item no. 3 of MoA of the Institute.
Function and duties: The function and duties of the Society and Executive council, MAKAIAS have been laid down in Rules & Regulations under Memorandum of Association (MoA).
